Tày
The Tày also called Thô , You O , Tai Tho , Ngan , Phen , Thu Lao , but Pa Di , are one of the minorities officially recognized with the Vietnam. Tày live mainly in the north of the country.
Nông Ðức Mạnh current the General secretary of the Vietnamese Communist party since April 22nd, 2001, is Tày.
There are about 1,5 million Tày living in Vietnam. It is the second most important ethnicity after the Viêt or Kinh. The majority live in the north of Vietnam, in the provinces of CAD Bằng, Lạng Sơn, Bắc Kạn, Thái Nguyên, and Quang Ninh where they live in the valleys and with the foot of the mountains. They live the fertile plains and are generally farmers. Their principal cultures are the Riz, the Maïs, and the Sweet potatoes. The villages tày are installed with the foot of a mountain and bear the name of a mountain, a field, a river. Each village includes/understands approximately 15-20 families.
The majority of enter them practices the worship of the ancestors and the spirits. A furnace bridge dedicated to the ancestors finds his place in the center of the house and the guests as well as the expectant mothers are not authorized to sit down on the bed placed in the furnace bridge.
Tày are related with the Nung and the Zhuang of the south of the China.
The women tày carry usually traditional behaviors called Sarong which go down to the knee, split on the right-sided and closed with 5 buttons under the armpit.
Among the songs tày, the " hat luon" is a duet of love.
The language tày belongs to the same sub-group, known as " tai central", of the Languages tai of the branch known as " kam-tai" Langues tai-kadai, that the southernmost zhuang and the E of the south of China.
The literature of language tày is not very abundant. The dialects are the tày central, Eastern, southernmost, septentrional, trung khanh, thu lao and bao lake.
