Szentgotthárd

Szentgotthárd (in German, St Gotthard ; in Slovenien, Monošter ) is the most Western commune of Hungary. It is located on the Raab close to the Austrian border , and constitutes the hearth of major the part of the Slovenien ethnic minority of Hungary.

History

In 1664, it is the theater of the Bataille of Saint-Gothard, during whom an Austrian army led by Raimondo Montecuccoli demolished the Ottoman Empire and thus led the Turks to accept the Paix of Vasvár which lasted until in 1683.
