Systole

Definition

The systole (of the Greek συστολή which means contraction ) is the contraction of the rooms of the Cœur. The adjective corresponding is systolic . The four rooms of the heart know a systole and a Diastole so that blood is propelled through the cardiovascular system.

At the time of the systole, the Ventricle S, filled at the time of the diastole, contract but without changing volume, it is the isovolumetric contraction . This one makes it possible to increase the pressure (see Normal Values) ventricular cavities, and when the Valves open blood is sent in the Artères: it is the systolic ejection .

One calls Volume Télésystolique (VTS) blood volume remaining in the left ventricle at the maximum time of contraction, after the phases of systolic ejection and isovolumetric relieving. This normal volume is of 55 ml.

  • average Pressure in the right atrium: 3 mmHg
  • maximum Pressure in the ventricle right: 18 mmHg
  • minimal Pressure in the ventricle right: 4 mmHg
  • maximum Pressure in the pulmonary artery: 18 mmHg
  • minimal Pressure in the pulmonary artery: 8 mmHg
  • average Pressure in the pulmonary artery: 12 mmHg
  • average Pressure in the pulmonary capillaries: 8 mmHg

  • average Pressure in the left atrium: 8 mmHg

  • maximum Pressure in the left ventricle: 130 mmHg
  • minimal Pressure in the left ventricle: 80 mmHg
  • maximum Pressure in the aorta (known as systolic): 130 mmHg. The first number of the blood-pressure defines. Commonly expressed in cmHg, one thus obtains 13.
  • minimal Pression in the aorta (known as diastolic): 80 mmHg. The second number of the blood-pressure defines. One will speak here about a tension at 13/8.
  • average Pressure in the aorta: 95 mmHg
  • the normal aortic systolic pressure lies between 120 and 140 mmHg. The latter becomes pathological if it exceeds 140 mmHg. One then speaks about Arterial Hypertension (HTA)
