The system of irrigation of Dujiangyan () was conceived to the III E by the governor Li Bing (李冰) and his/her son er Lang, to avoid the floods caused by the Rivière Min, and to irrigate the plain of Chengdu. It functions without interruption since its creation, and continues to develop.
Thanks to a series of mobile stoppings, part of water of the Min river is derived towards a channel which leads them towards the plain of Chengdu. The construction of this channel required the boring of the mountain, outstanding performance taking into account the weakness of the means available at the time. Among the techniques used, the repeated heating and the cooling of the rock made it possible to fracture it and facilitate its boring. To avoid the accumulation of silt in the system of irrigation, a Digue was built in the center of the river. The base of this one was carried out after having constituted of enormous Gabion S made of Bambou S.
Two other large historical channels exist in China:
Jointly with the Mount Qingcheng, it was registered on the Liste of the world heritage of UNESCO in 2000.
