System TDPS
The Système TDPS is the hydrological unit located at the Peru, in Bolivia and, very partially with the Chile, consisted by the Lac Titicaca, its emissary the Río Desaguadero, the Lac Poopó and the Salar de Coipasa.
The basins of these four entities form a communicating hydrological unit indeed, making so that the water of the lake Titicaca, can be found finally in Salar de Coipasa, after having forwarded by Desaguadero, the Lac Poopó and its emissary the Río Laca Jahuira. It is the great system endorrheic of the South American Altiplano. It should be noted that it does not gather the endorrheic totality of the basins of this area, but only the basins of lakes and rivers communicating between them. The most notable exclusion of the system is the Salar de Uyuni.
The name of TDPS is formed of initial of the four basins forming the system: " T" for Titicaca , " D" for Desaguadero , " P" for Poopó and " S" for Salar de Coipasa .
It is composed of the four principal basins:
-
the basin of the Lake Titicaca of a surface of 56 168 km ².
- the basin of the Río Desaguadero of 31 153 km ².
- the basin of the Lake Poopó of 23 880 km ².
- Finally that of the Salar de Coipasa of 32 699 km ².
On the whole system TDPS includes 143 900 km ².
