Syrtos

The sirto or syrto (of the modern Greek συρτός or συρτό , to carry out) is a family of traditional dances Greek.

Each area has its own version and its own alternatives. The Kalamatianos belongs to the family of the syrto.

Thus, in Thrace he dances himself in couple, in Crete it is a dance exclusively of men, with Cyprus he is danced by women.

In the syrtos in couple, the partners do not touch themselves or hold each one an end of the same handkerchief. The syrtos is danced in improvisation, it is really a play of seduction between the man and the woman.
