Synod of Alba Iulia
The synod was convened in 1698 on the initiative of the métropolite Atanasie Anghel of Alba Iulia, to discuss the recognition by the Roumanians of Transylvania of the authority of the pope of Rome.
The October 7th 1698 the synod adopted the following formulation: " Us, Vlădica, Proto-priests and priests of the Rumanian Church to knowing with all that of our own will we give unisons with the Church with Rome and us with this Holy Church of Rome. " (" Noi, Vlădica, Protopopii şi Popii Băsericii Româneşti dăm ştire tuturor că of bună voia noastră unim Cu Băserica Romei şi mărturisim mădulările cestei Băserici Sânte has Romei. ")
The act of union was sign by the totality of the synod and reinforced with the seal of Métropolie de Bălgrad (Alba Iulia).
It was the beginning of the Plain Rumanian Eglise with Rome.
