Following the example Syndrome of Miller-Fisher, to which it is very close, this syndrome is characterized by the presence in the blood of anti-GQ1B autoantibody, one of the components of the Myéline. However, these antibodies are found only at 70% of the patients suffering from Bickerstaff. For some, a virus of the kind Herpesviridae could be implied.
