Synaptic

Synaptic is a free manager of packages ( synaptic is a word English transparent which means Synaptique). Technically, Synaptic is simple a Graphical interface (based on GTK+) for APT. Its role is thus to facilitate the operations of installation, update and desinstallation of the software. This manager of package is especially used on the systems using the package S with the format .deb like Debian, but it also functions for the majority of the distributions based on the packages RPM.

It is installed by defect on the Debian distribution.

Synaptic was written at the origin by Alfredo K. Kojima. It is currently maintained by Michael Vogt.
