Synagog of Lengnau
Lengnau is a commune Suisse canton of Argovie (in German: Aargau) in the district of Zurzach. In 2005, this village counts 2434 inhabitants.
Until the medium of the XIXe century Lengnau and Endingen, located at only 4 kilometers of Lengnau, are the only villages in Switzerland where the Juif S have the authorization to settle. Jews start to be established in Lengnau starting from 1622. The acquisition of the ground being prohibited them, those are especially commercial , Colporteur S or traders in Bétail. In 1850 one counts 1515 Jews which live in the two villages.
But as of half of the 19th century, this number quickly will decrease. They are not any more that 263 in 1920, and 1980 it has nothing any more but three Jewish families there. As of the authorization to settle in the big cities, the majority of the families left these two villages.
The first Synagog of Lengnau is built in 1750 and quickly appears too small. Also it is replaced by a new building built between 1846 and 1849 by the Architecte Swiss Ferdinand Stadler.
With the top of the Portail is engraved a quotation of the Hebrew Livre of Isaïe in and German chapter 56-7:

The synagog is built in neo-classic style néo-Romance and . Located in the middle of the village, it is built on a platform slightly in height. Currently it is closed and only used at the time of festivals or of Mariage S. to visit it, to address itself by advance to the Jewish community of Argovie.
