Symphony orchestra of Quebec

The Symphony orchestra of Quebec (OSQ) is one of the two principal orchestras of the Ville of Quebec, with the Violins of Roy.

History

Senior of the Canadian symphony orchestras, it celebrated his 100 years of existence in 2002. Its leader principal and musical director is at present Yoav Talmi, assisted by the assistant chief reside Richard Lee. The majority in its concerts take place with the Grand Theater of Quebec. The orchestra also occurs with the Opéra of Quebec and the Grands Canadian Ballets. It currently counts 66 permanent musicians.

For the centenary of the orchestra, the musicologist Bertrand Guay published One century of symphony in Quebec . This work recalls the history of the Symphony orchestra of Quebec (formerly called symphonic Société of Quebec ) of its beginnings until the year 2002. The OSQ is the only North-American orchestra being able to praise itself to have accommodated the very large Rumanian leader Sergiu Celibidache (which directed, inter alia, Romeo and Juliette of Prokofiev at the time of one of its passages to Quebec).

Another striking fact, in fact the OSQ presented in first world symphonic work AD Vitam Aeternam of the type-setter Québécois Steve Barakatt. Work was then presented in Europe and Asia becoming thus symphonic work on a worldwide scale the most diffused Québécoise.

To underline the 400 years of history of the Town of Quebec, the orchestra will interpret, with the Colisée Pepsi, for the first time of its history the Symphonie “Of the Thousand” of Mahler, with 2 other orchestras of the area and not less than one ten choruses. This work will supplement the Mahler cycle begin with Yoav Talmi in 1996.
