Symphony n° 5 of Prokofiev
The Fifth symphony in major B flat, opus 100 (1945) of Sergueï Prokofiev is vastest and by certain aspects most imposing from its seven Symphonies. Following the example Seventh symphony of Chostakovitch and Symphony n° 2 of Khatchatourian, it is a “patriotic” work and “of war”. Of traditional cut and linear nature, work is in four movements:
- Andante
- Allegro marcato
- Adagio
- Allegro giocoso

Analyzes
The central movements are most personal: the allegro is “pure Prokofiev”: sarcastic, corrosive, strongly rate/rhythm; the adagio is as for him a long complaint sometimes tearing, sometimes frozen, sometimes with the limits of the tonality. It is more mahlérien movements ever written by the type-setter. The first movement constitutes a sumptuous but a little pompeux gate, full with deaf threat and heroic resolution, calling upon impressive copper alloys and cords, while the last famous movement, with an involving joy but of a light vulgarity (of which it is impossible to evaluate the degree of irony sincerely), the triumph of the forces of the Good.Andante
Approximately 13 minutes.Allegro marcato
Approximately 8 minutes.Adagio
Approximately 15 minutes.Allegro giocoso
Approximately 10 minutes.
