Symphony n° 2 of Brahms
This Symphonie was composed by Johannes Brahms during the summer 1877 with Pörtschach in the the Austrian Alps , place which inspired it since it also wrote there its Concerto for violin . The short duration of gestation contrasts with that of the first symphony which had lasted more than 15 years.
It remains deeply traditional in its structure: a second slow movement, a short scherzo constituting the third. It is of merrier mood, another outstanding difference with its preceding symphony, of darker tonality and was compared with the “pastoral ” of Beethoven.
It was created on December 30th 1877 with Vienna by Hans Richter.
It is composed of four movements and lasts approximately 40 min.

- Adagio not troppo
