Symphony n° 1 of Saint-Saëns

The Symphonie n° 1 in major E flat COp 2 is a work of Camille Saint-Saëns written in 1853.

Saint-Saëns wrote on the whole five Symphonie S of which three carry a number: that Ci, the second and its famous third, known as " with orgue". In addition to these last, it composed at the 15 years age a symphony in major the , as well as a in major F, named Urbs Roma (" town of Rome").

Its COp 2 is an early work, written at the 18 years age.

It is created on December 8th, 1853, without the author being revealed by it. Charles Gounod and Hector Berlioz attended the concert directed by Seghers and the musician accepted the compliments of the first in a short missive when the true author of the symphony was revealed.

It is composed of four movements and its execution takes approximately half an hour.
