Symphonic music
In the Instrumental music traditional, the symphonic music indicates the whole of the works and the musical genres dedicated to the Symphony orchestra. The symphonic music is thus distinguished from the Chamber music, i.e., of the music for one or more Soliste S, but also, of the music for small instrumental units, generally called chamber orchestras.
At the beginning of the 17th century, manpower and the structure of the Orchestre are not stabilized yet: that is primarily composed of the Basse continues, of rubbed cords, and according to the circumstances, of some auxiliary instruments - Flûte S, Hautbois, trumpet S… During the period baroque, the type-setters gradually take the practice to divide the true musicians of the orchestra into four Pupitre S: the rubbed cords, the wood, the coppers and the percussions. In parallel, the old musical genres - Concerto grosso, continuation, Sonata… - evolve/move, and tend more and more to take into account this new type of formation. Thus at the beginning of the 18th century, appearance of new kinds - initially, the concerto of soloist and, a little later, the Symphony - mark true birth of the symphonic music. Later, at the 19th century this one will be equipped moreover Ballet and Symphonic poem.
