Sylvie Vartan

Sylvie Vartan (Vartanian of its true name) is a French singer of Bulgarian origin born the August 15th 1944 with Iskretz (Bulgaria) of a father of ascent Arménie and of a Hungarian mother .

Biography

Childhood

Sylvie is born in a family living in Iskrets, a village located in the chain of the Grand Balkan (center of Bulgaria). When the Soviet army enters to Bulgaria, a few months after the birth of Sylvie, the family loses her house (requisitioned) and must settle with Sofia. His/her father, Georges, are press attaché with the embassy of France in Bulgaria.

The very first role of Sylvie to the cinema is that, modest, of a schoolgirl in a film made by a family friend over the time when Bulgaria lived under the Othoman yoke . This experiment gave him the taste of the artistic world and the spectacle.

The life in Bulgaria becoming increasingly difficult, the family decides to emigrate with the beginning of the year 1950. It is the grandfather of Sylvie, Robert, francophile convinced, who advises to them to leave for Paris. Time to obtain the visas necessary, and Sylvie arrives at Paris in December 1952 with her parents and her brother Eddie Vartan, seven years her elder.

Its beginnings

On the proposal of her Eddie brother, Sylvie will record in 1961 a duet with Frankie Jordan Panne of gasoline , following the desistance from last minute of the singer Gillian Hills. This first success enables him to continue a career in solo with a first 45T at the end of 1961 " When the film is triste".

First singer rock'n'roll of her generation, Sylvie Vartan is distinguished from her colleagues by an early scenic career since it takes her first steps on the scene of Olympia as of her beginnings in 1961.

Another characteristic, it starts since 1963 to go regularly to the United States where it will record in Nashville with the musicians and the choruses of Elvis Presley. An English album recorded in New York leaves in 1965. Two other American albums will leave: " I don' T want the night to end" in 1979 and " Made in USA" in 1985. She divides the poster of the Olympia with Trini Lopez and Beatles at the beginning of 1964. At the same time, its song " Most beautiful to go danser" , written by Charles Aznavour, made of it a millionaire of the disc in France and in Japan. Sylvie Vartan then starts to make television programs and rounds in France and abroad. She takes part thus in the emissions " Hullabaloo" , " Shindig" or " The ED Sullivan show" in 1965 and during six weeks a show animates on the SPOKE, heading Doppia Coppia, in 1969. It leaves two Italian albums in 1969 and 1975 as well as a Spanish album in 1966.

Sylvie and Johnny

She marries with Loconville (Oise) Jean-Philippe Smet, known as Johnny Hallyday, the April 12th 1965, of which she has in August 1966 a son David Hallyday. Family of artists since it is, in addition, the aunt of the actor Michael Vartan. She divorces in November 1980.

The April 11th 1968 whereas it circulates on a secondary road of the Yvelines to height of Bois of Arcy at the wheel of an OSI, it is struck by a light van Peugeot 404. She carries out one moving pilgrimage under the cameras in her native Bulgaria in 1990 and makes her return on a Parisian scene in 1991. Since, Sylvie Vartan left 6 albums, two integrals and sang with the Casino of Paris, Olympia or the palate of the Congresses.

She is the French female artist who added up more “ones” of the magazines: approximately 2  000, in front of Bardot and Deneuve.
