Sylvester

Sylvester James (Los Angeles, on September 6th 1947 - December 16th 1988) is a singer of Disco and Soul of the the United States of America.

Biography

Resulting from an easy black family of Los Angeles, Sylvester is raised by his/her grandmother, the singer of Blues Julia Morgan. It begins its career with San Francisco in the Années 1970 within the group The Cockettes, at the sides of Divine. With Patrick Cowley, it records an album in solo in 1977, and is made known with the success of “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” and “Dance (Heat Disco music)”. Made up, androgyne, it seems a creature out-standards. He does not hesitate to approach sexuality (“I Need Someone to Love Tonight”, “Menergy”, “C You Wanna Funk”).

HIV positive, it engages in the prevention and it continues to record albums intended for the tracks of dance of the nightclubs. In 1985, it takes part in the choruses on an album of its idol Aretha Franklin, and Keith Haring illustrates the small pocket of one of its individual. Several of its songs are the subject of recoveries by Jimmy Somerville, Sandra Bernhard, Byron Stingily,… It dies of complications due to the AIDS in 1988, one year after his/her Rick companion.
