Switzerland with bicycle
Switzerland with bicycle is a Fondation of Public utility Suisse, charged to develop and maintain the network cycle roads national.
History
The foundation is created in 1995 with for goal to connect all Switzerland by cycle routes marked out according to the same standards. In 1998, it is officially recorded with Bern in the form of a public-private Partenariat, its goals being consequently occasion widened “to include the development of durable offers leisures tourism, in particular in combination with the means of public transport”.The budget of the foundation rises to 10 million Swiss francs, and covers the management of the project, installations, indication and road marking, the installation of panels as well as integration in various guides and road maps.
Composition
The foundation is directed by a council of 13 people, representatives inter alia the cantons, the CF, Suisse Tourism, the Swiss Touring Club, the Association transport and environment and the association of Swiss cycling. Subordinated to the council, the secretariat and direction of the project
Cycle roads
In 2007, the foundation marked out 9 national routes which leave and finish all in a Gare. Many possibilities of transport of the bicycle by Train or Bus on short distances are offered. It envisages to open three additional trunk roads and 14 regional roads especially dedicated to the bicycles any grounds.
Route du Rhône 1
The Road of the the Rhone (road number 1) connects Andermatt to Geneva while crossing the Valais, then while skirting the Lac Léman. Long (of which 26 km are not asphalted), she 309 km is regarded as easy, except for the first section which includes the passage of the Col of Furka. She is cut out in five sections:- Andermatt - Oberwald (36 km)
- Oberwald - Aspires to (43 km)
- Brigue - Sion (60 km)
- Sion - Montreux (75 km)
- Montreux - Geneva (93 km)
Route du Rhin 2
The Road of the the Rhine (road number 2) connects Andermatt to Basle while following the course of the Rhine to the east of Switzerland, including a small passage in Austria along the Lac of Constancy. Long (of which 80 km are not asphalted), she 425 km is regarded as easy, except for the section which includes the passage of the Col of Oberalp. She is cut out in five sections:- Andermatt - Disentis (34 km)
- Disentis - Coire (64 km)
- Coire - Rorschach (117 km)
- Rorschach - Schaffhouse (82 km)
- Schaffhouse - Basle (128 km)
Route Nord-Sud 3
The North-South Road (road number 3) connects Basle to Chiasso while crossing the Massif of the Jura, the Swiss Plateau and the the Alps. Long (of which 30 km are not asphalted), she 363 km is regarded as intermediary, in particular for the crossing of the collar of Gothard. She is cut out in six sections:- Basel - Aarau (57 km)
- Aarau - Lucerne (56 km)
- Lucerne - Flüelen (50 km)
- Flüelen - Airolo (63 km)
- Airolo - Bellinzone (65 km)
- Bellinzone - Chiasso (72 km)
Route alpine panorama 4
The Road alpine panorama (road number 4) connects St Margrethen to Aigle while crossing more than 10 collars of the Alps culminating with the Col of Klausen. This road, long (of which 10 are not asphalted) 483 kilometers is regarded as difficult. She is cut out in six sections:- St Margrethen - Ziegelbrücke (Niederurnen) (104 km)
- Ziegelbrücke - Flüelen (78 km)
- Flüelen - Sarnen (56 km)
- Sarnen - Thoune (84 km)
- Thoune - Bubble (88 km)
- Bubble - Eagle (73 km)
Route Mittelland 5
The Road Mittelland (road number 5) connects Romanshorn to Lausanne while crossing the Swiss Plateau, generally on ways prohibited with circulation. Long (of which 85 are not asphalted), she 369 kilometers is regarded as easy and is cut out in five sections:- Romanshorn - Winterthour (71 km)
- Winterthour - Aarau (79 km)
- Aarau - Bienne (85 km)
- Bienne - Yverdon (81 km)
- Yverdon - Lausanne (53 km)
Route des Grisons 6
The Road of the Grisons (road number 6) connects Coire to Bellinzone while crossing the canton of the Grisons, l´ Engadine, the Col of Albula, skirting the border with the Austria along the the posterior Rhine then climbing the Col of San Bernardino. Long (of which 71 is not asphalted), she 260 kilometers is regarded as difficult with more than 2000 meters of made uneven and is cut out in five sections:- Coire - Thusis (25 km)
- Thusis - Holy Moritz (49 km)
- Holy Moritz - Scuol (91 km)
- Scuol - top of San Bernardino (53 km)
- San Bernardino - Bellinzone (42 km)
Route du Jura 7
The Road of the Jura (road number 7) connects Basle to Nyon while crossing the collars of the Jura, the District of the Frank-Mountains and finishing at the edge of the Lac Léman. Long (of which 20 are not asphalted), she 275 kilometers is regarded as difficult and is cut out in four sections:- Basle - Saint-Ursanne (68 km)
- St-Ursanne - La Chaux-de-Fonds (62 km)
- La Chaux-de-Fonds - Vallorbe (84 km)
- Vallorbe - Nyon (61 km)
Route de l'Aar 8
The Road of the Aar (road number 8) connects Oberwald to Koblenz while following the course of the river since the Col of Grimsel until the Lac of Constancy. Long (of which 70 are not asphalted), she 305 kilometers is regarded as easy, except for the collar of Grimsel and is cut out in five sections:- Oberwald - Meiringen (38 km)
- Meiringen - Thoune (62 km)
- Thoune - Bienne (79 km)
- Bienne - Aarau (84 km)

Route des lakes 9
The Road of the lakes (road number 9) connects Montreux to Rorschach while passing by 16 different lakes. Long (of which 50 are not asphalted), she 497 kilometers is regarded as easy with average and is cut out in six sections:- Montreux - Castle-with Œx (88 km)
- Castle-in Œx - Spiez (63 km)
- Spiez - Meiringen (45 km)
- Meiringen - Lucerne (61 km)
- Lucerne - Rapperswil (92 km)

Indication
For all the roads (national and regional), the federation uses a uniform indication of red panels used for:- of the panels of information, located at the stations or the crossings of roads
- of the panels of direction, with the number of the road and sometimes the indication of the distance and the destination
- of simple indicators of change of management or crossing
- of the plates of indication of uneven preventing important differences in level (more than 100 meters, except for roads 4 and 7 where only the uneven ones of more than 200 meters are announced).
Other projects
The federation periodically organizes demonstrations called SlowUp , during which portions of roads are closed with circulation motorized, generally during the weekend.
