Swiss gendarmerie

In Swiss, the gendarmerie is exerted by personnel not-soldier. The gendarmerie term is a Napoleonean heritage.

History

The first bodies of gendarmes result from the gendarmes to foot of Napoleon Bonaparte present in Switzerland during the French occupation under the Swiss République. Thereafter, various tasks of police force were deputy to them.

Organization

Currently, the police force is exerted by the cantons, which act like as many Sovereign states. The cantonal police force is generally subdivided in two bodies:

the gendarmerie, organizes in uniform which exerts the tasks of police force-help, proximity and the judicial enquiries.
the police force of safety, inspectors as a civilian who exert the judicial police (average and serious crime)

However in certain cantons, the gendarmes have some to be able of judicial police and act as an agent of judicial police in the achievement of judicial enquiries known as local.
