Swiss foundation of mine clearance

The Swiss Fondation of mine clearance (FSD) is a Governmental organization (ONG), creates in 1997 with Geneva. It is carrying the label ZEWO and independent of any religion, ideology or nationality.

Activities

The FSD is an organization which focuses its work on the needs for the affected populations by the mines and not exploded ammunition (UXO).

Its principal activities are the following ones:

  • humane mine clearance
  • training of bomb disposal experts
  • prevention against the dangers related to the anti-personnel mines and others not exploded machines (UXO)
  • destruction of stocks of mines and others weapons
  • the depollution and the decontamination of sites to fine humanitarians

Organization

It employs 10 collaborators within his seat with national Geneva, and 60 international experts and 500 bomb disposal experts on the ground.

Its annual budget rises to 18 million Swiss francs. Its financing comes public and private givers, like various multilateral organizations, of which the World food program (WFP), the Programme of the United Nations for the development (UNDP), UNMAS, UNOPS or the Organization for safety and the co-operation in Europe (SOEC).

Missions

In 2005, the FSD led mineclearing operations humane to the Tadjikistan, with the Sri Lanka, the Laos, like the Sudan and the Burundi. These last years, the FSD intervened in Croatia, with the Kosovo, in Albania, Bosnia-Herzégovine, Afghanistan, Iraq, with the Pakistan, the Filipino , in Angola, in Democratic republic of Congo and elsewhere.
