The Swiss République is the name which took the Swiss cantons, transformed into unit République, between 1798 and 1803. This period of the Histoire of Switzerland is also called the Helvétique . Its beginning marks the end of the Ancien Mode in Suisse and the beginning of the political modernization of the country.
The Swiss Republic is a failure: The February 19th 1803 the Swiss ones obtain Bonaparte a news Constitution organized according to a federal model: the Act of mediation.
Origin
Its appearance rises from a process started as of the French revolution. It is partly the result of the Lutte S carried out in the Swiss Cantons against the urban Oligarchie S. But it is before a whole mode Politique imposed by the France close to the Directoire.In 1797, Pierre Ochs and Frederic-César of the Toothing-stone try to convince the general Bonaparte to cause a Révolution in Suisse. The calls to the Révolution come from France have few echoes in the Swiss cantons . Only Vaud is raised partially. The January 24th 1798, the " lemanic Republic " is founded with Lausanne after a peaceful rising .
A little later following a minor incident, the French troops penetrate in Country of Vaud, then occupy all the Suisse.
March 28th 1798, the police chief French Lecarlier convenes in Aarau an National Assembly charged to adopt the constitution, or Swiss booklet (Helvetisches Büchlein), copied on the French model. The time of Swiss extends of April 12th 1798 at March 10th 1803.
