SMI (abbreviation of Swiss Market Index and that one can translate by “Index of the Swiss market”) is a Market index market actions currently gathering the 26 principal values ( blue chips ) of the gone Suisse with dimensions with the Bourse of Zurich.

The index is calculated by the simple weighting of the floating capitalization (total capitalization - action registered) of these values divided by the divider.

It covers approximately 90% of the market cap. Four larger capitalizations of the market, Nestlé (food), Novartis (pharmacy), UBS (banks) and Hoffmann it Roche (pharmacy) weigh, alone, nearly 60% of the index (June 2007).
