Swiss Life () (in the past Rentenanstalt ) is the greatest group of life insurances of Switzerland. Its head office is with Zurich.

Swiss Life occupies 9300 collaborators for a turnover of 201 billion CHF (figures 2005).

Swiss Life is leader on the Swiss market of the life insurance of the private individuals. The group appears among the first insurers of the branch life in Germany, with the Netherlands, in Belgium and with the Luxembourg.

History

The Rentenanstalt establishment was founded in 1857 by Conrad Widmer with Zurich under the initial name of Swiss Caisse of Revenues , then Swiss Société of general Insurances on the human life . However, it is the German name of Rentenanstalt (German for establishment of pension ) which will be essential in French-speaking Switzerland and Swiss Société in France.

With its beginnings, the company is dependant on its banking partner Credit Suisse chaired by Alfred Escher, that Conrad Widmer since its studies.

In 1988, Rentenanstalt becomes majority shareholder of the Insurance company Switzerland, with Lausanne.

Into 1997, the Cooperative society is transformed into Public limit company and, after several change of strategy and direction, the Rentenanstalt becomes in 2004 Swiss Life .
