Swingle Singers
The Swingle Singers is a vocal group formed with Paris in 1962 by Ward Swingle, Anne Germain, Jeanette Baucomont and Jean Cussac. Christiane Legrand, the sister of the type-setter Michel Legrand was the first soprano of the group which included/understood 8 members on the whole: two sopranos, two violas, two tenors and two low. The other members were Jean-Claude Briodin, Claudine Meunier and Claude Germain.
History
The vocal group directed at the beginning by Ward Swingle (which had formed part before of the Double Six ) was constituted to take part in vocal accompaniments.He sang with Etienne Daho on " Shy person intimité" (of the album Eden in 1996) and with Style Council on the piece " The Story off Someone' S Shoe" (on the album Confessions off Pop Group 1988 has). The leader of Style Council, Paul Weller, declared that this piece was inspired of the album which Swingle Singers had recorded in 1967 with the Modern Jazz Four-bit byte: Place Vendome .
Today
The group is established with London. The Swingle Singers call sometimes upon an accompaniment of low and a battery. They produce taken again of a technical high level which go from the Beatles to the classical music (Tchaïkovski, Beethoven) while passing by the opera (Rossini). Arrangements are often close to the Harmonie S of the Jazz. They are also influenced by Nat King Cole.They recorded " Air one the G String" , a transposition of Bach with the Modern Jazz Four-bit byte. Luciano Berio wrote for them a modern symphony post Symphonie for eight vote and orchestra . They also recorded " Ci-to lie Satie" and " Visions and Spels" of Ben Johnston. In 2005 their recording of the Prélude in major F of the quite moderate Clavier of Bach was integrated in the disc " They" of Jem Griffith; this piece forms also part of the original soundtrack of film of 2006 Gigolos . In 2006 Swingle Singers also recorded the Fugue in minor ground (BWV 578) of Bach which can be heard in the film Thank You for Smoking .

Anecdote
- Contrary to the sometimes spread opinion, the piece of Burt Bacharach " South American Getaway" who is reproduced on the original soundtrack of the film Butch Cassidy and Kid (1969) was not interpreted by Swingle Singers.
