Swimming with the Olympic Games of 2008

The tests of swimming of the Olympic Games of summer of 2008 will proceed August 9th at August 21st, 2008 in sport with Beijing in Popular republic of China. On this occasion, 34 tests will be organized: 17 for the women, 17 for the men. Among these tests, the Nage out of interstitial water appears for the first with the program with a test of 10 km for the women and the men.

Organization

Site of the competitions

The whole of the tests out of basin will proceed in the National center of swimming of Beijing located not far from the national Stade of Beijing where will be organized the fence and opening ceremonies as well as the tests of athletics. Of a capacity of: 17000 places, the " cubic of eau" , as the building is called, will accommodate also the tests of synchronized Natation and Plongeon. Located in the Olympic Park, the construction of the Olympic installation began in December 2003.

The two new tests of Nage out of interstitial water will proceed with the Olympic Parc watery of Shunyi where will be also organized the tests of oar and of Canoe-kayak. The construction of the site is committed since the first six-month period 2005.

New tests

October 27th, 2005 in sport, the International Olympic committee agrees the proposal of the International federation of swimming to include the Nage out of interstitial water with the program of the Plays of Beijing. Men and women will thus dispute a test of 10 km disputed regularly at the time of the last Championnats of the world of swimming. Those will be held in an artificial basin in the Olympic watery Parc of Shunyi. The addition of these two new tests changes to 34 the number of competitions of swimming for these Olympic Games.

Individual tests

Each national delegation or Olympic national committee can register two representatives per test if these two swimmers filled the criteria of qualification has, only one representative by test if this swimmer filled the criteria of qualification B. the period to carry out these minimas begins the March 15th 2007 and the July 15th 2008 is completed. The swimmers must carry out these minimas at the time of the competitions recognized and approved by FINA: continental championships, national Olympic selections and international competitions.

Relay

Each national delegation can register only one relay per test. 16 relays per test will take part in the Plays of Beijing. 12 were qualified by finishing in the first 12 places at the time of the eliminatory series of the Championnats of the world of swimming 2007 organized with Melbourne. For each test, the last four relays will be selected by FINA on the basis of result obtained at the time of the fifteen months preceding the beginning by the Olympic Games.

Swim out of interstitial water

25 men and 25 women will take part the interstitial water stroke proof. Each delegation cannot engage more than 2 representatives per test.

Polemics

Polemic on the schedules of the finales

October 26th, 2006 in sport, the International Olympic committee officializes the displacement of the finales of swimming and gymnastics at the time of the mornings (whereas they were held in end of the afternoon before), more capable schedules to satisfy the American audio-visual group NBC, holder of the rights of diffusion of the Olympic competitions to the United States and principal backer of the CIO.
