Swan Song Records

Swan Song Records was a independent label launched by Led Zeppelin the May 10th 1974. It was directed by the manager of Led Zeppelin, Peter Grant, and was a means for the group of making the promotion of its own products as to sign artists who found difficult to obtain contracts with majors. The decision of launching this label came after five years from a contract with Atlantic Records, expired at the end of 1973. Atlantic Records distributed the product of the label then.

The logo of the company was based on Evening, Fall off Day (1869) by the painter William Rimmer, representative Apollon of the Greek Mythologie , although often this one is interpreted as being Icare or Lucifer because of the wings which seldom appear in other illustrations of Apollo.

A majestic festival was held with the Chislehurst Caves with Kent, England the October 31st 1974 to celebrate the first British exit of the label by the Pretty Things, Silk Torpedo (the first exit with the the United States of Swan Song was the first album of Bad Company, bearing the same name, in June 1974). In March 1975, Swan Song had four albums ( Bad Company , Silk Torpedo , Physical Graffiti , and Suicide Sal ) in Signal 200 of Billboard . The label also partly financed cinematographic projects such as Monty Python: Crowned Graal! in 1975.

Artists signed with the label without never producing any produced album there, in particular New York, author-interprets it Mirabai, Metropolis which comprised members of Pretty Things, The Message (which comprised future members of Bon Jovi, Alec John Such and Richie Sambora), like Itchy Brother, which comprised future members of the Kentucky Headhunters. Iron Maiden and The Q Tips including Paul Young was approximate but did not sign. Roy Harper and the guitarist of blues Bobby Parker was artists that Swan Song Records wanted to make sign but who were finally turned over towards other labels.

Swan Song ceased its operations in October 1983 because of the separation of Led Zeppelin and the health issues of Peter Grant. An attempt to save the label was carried out by the executive Phil Carson of Atlantic Records but forever borne its fruits. Robert Plant launched her own label, Es Paranza Records, at the dawn of the closing of Swan Song, while Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones is turned over to Atlantic Records. Today, the label is strictly used for republications of the albums of its catalog.
