Sverresborg was built in the years 1185 for Sverre Sigurdsson. It overhangs the Forteresse of Bergenhus and was at the wood and stone base. According to a saga, 600 noble men and 40 women lived in 1207 there. The fortress was destroyed twice by Baglers, enemies of Birkebeiners, at the beginning of the 13th century. The majority of still visible constructions date from the 17th century, and the last modifications date from the Napoléonienne time. The fortress have a big role in the Battle of Vågen, by supporting the Dutch fleet with blows of guns.
