Sven Kennethson
Sven Kennethson , also named, in Gaelic, Suibne mac Cináeda (“Suibne wire of Cináed”) (death in 1034) was a king Celto-norrois (Scandinavian and gaël). The Yearly of Ulster and the Annales of Tigernach evoke its death in 1034.
Although generally associated with the Galloway, whose name derives precisely from Gall-Gaidheal (Gall-Gáedil), he is the ancestor éponyme of the Sweeney clan, who was with Knapdale, in the area of the Loch Sween where was built at the 12th century the castle of Sween.
If Suibne reigned on Galloway, nothing of his reign to date is known. Annals inform us correctly only starting from Fergus de Galloway (reign of 1120 approx. to 1161). Certain toponymic interpretations would suggest that its kingdom extended on all current Galloway, as well as the Carrick and the Nithsdale, and perhaps until the Douglasdale, without forgetting several islands, like the island of Man.
