Svantovít
Svantovit ( Sventevith, Svetovid, Suvid, Svantevit, Svantovit, Svantovít, Swantovít, Sventovit, Zvantevith, Świętowit, Sutvid, Światowit ), is the god of the war in the Slavic Mythologie, is also known under the name of Vélès or of Weiha in the interior regions of the Slavic countries. Svjatevit is one of the three faces Triglaf and is mainly honoured in the Baltic States. He was even seen in certain areas as being the principal god, in the honor of which one celebrated each year a great festival at the end of the harvest; it was believed that fruitfulness or the food shortage depended on him and one offered to him part of the spoils conquered on the enemies.
This god is mentioned under the names of Svantevit, Svjatevit and Swjatovit, and is represented provided with a long sword suspended at his side, his left hand holding a large arc. Close to its idol the brake and the saddle were deposited which one put at the white horse which was devoted to him, and which the large priest alone had the right to go up at the time of the ritual ceremonies. It was believed that it overlapped the night on this mysterious dispach rider, and was going to fight the enemies of his people. With Arkona, in the island of Rugen, a large temple, destroyed by Waldemar Ier, king of the Denmark, was dedicated to him. Sventovit can be compared with Mithra of Indo-Iranian mythology.
