Suzanne Torta , born in France with Cormontreuil on December 16th, 1904, is an artist with the multiple facets. She expressed very early an aptitude for arts.
Dès age the 20 years, it settled with Paris. Capital of the international artistic avant-garde, Paris offered for the artists the largest market of painting to the world, most talented found there amateurs to acquire their works, galleries and living rooms to expose their paintings to it.

Artist engraver of foreground, Suzanne Tourte evolved/moved with Paris in the best artistic and literary world. Andre Maurois, Herve Bazin, Paul Guth, Armand Lanoux, Louise de Vilmorin, Robert Mallet, Paul Fort cultivated his friendship and sang its praises: “O my joy! The exclamation, for which knows, summarizes this woman and her painting…” known as one, “It engraves as it sings, like it paints: in dream” the other raises.

In this beginning of the 20th century when the fundamental concepts of art are called into question, Suzanne Tourte witnessed a competition without reserve between the artists who are in the search of new ways of expression: audacity of the Fauvisme, assertion of the Cubism, birth of the Abstraction, aggressiveness of the Expressionnisme and so much of others… then the “return to the order” with the Second world war.

In the middle of this storm, Suzanne Tourte knew to create its own universe. Its early works are frankly figurative. It evolved then to a period called “to rollings up” where modelled its characters is encircled of a feature. But it is about years 1950 that, its painting reaching the full maturity of its art, it gave best itself. This very personal work, the most built, corresponds to the “geometrized” period known as. One period known as “serene” succeeded to him. Whatever the “period”, it is always a demanding painting in its rigor and rich person in the beauty of his invoice.

Large professional, prize winner of the Blumenthal Price in engraving, Suzanne Tourte involve us in a world of happiness. To reach it, it is necessary to overcome the fear of appearing childish.

1985-1986: Sale of the workshop of Suzanne Torta to the Hotel Drouot with Paris.
