Suwon Samsung Bleuwings FC (Korean: 수원삼성블루윙즈) was founded in 1996 and is based in the town of Suwon. With the departure trained by Kim Ho, old coach of the national team, it quickly becomes one of the best clubs of the country, even of the continent of Asia, thus gaining the Ligue of the Champions of the AFC and Supercoupe of Asia. It is the property of the industrial giant Samsung. The club is involved since 2003 by Cha Bum-Geun, former large player of the South Korean national team.
During its still young history, it aligned players of very high level, such as the goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae, still currently posts some and holder in national team, or Kim Nam it, also international. Suwon is also one of the rare South Korean clubs to be able to allow itself to import foreign players. Thus, the star Rumanian Gabriel Popescu, Serb Zoran Urumov and Sasa Drakulic as very recently the Russian Denis Laktinov (naturalized Korean citizen in 2003) are the evidence that the club has some will have with the international level.
Suwon FC receives its adversaries in Big Bird Stadium, stage in the beginning builds for the World cup 2002. The capacity of reception is of 43.288 spectators, which does of it one of the largest stages of the country with that of Busan. It is however extremely difficult to evaluate the budget of the club.
Suwon can also count on an important support of its supporters, since those form the most important community of fans of a club in South Korea. Moreover, the town of Suwon is often called " The city of the football" by the amateurs of round ball to the country of the calm morning.
