Sushun

The emperor Sushun (崇峻天皇, Sushun Tennō , 523 - 592) was the thirty-second emperor Japan, according to the traditional order of the succession. He reigned of 587 to his death.

Its personal name was prince Hatsusebe (長谷部皇子 Hatsusebe No Miko ).

Genealogy

Sushun was it twelfth wire of the emperor Kimmei, his mother being Soga No Oane - hime, a girl of Soga No Iname.

  • Soga Kahakami No Iratsume, his/her cousin, girl of Soga No Umako; consort imperial in 587; remariée into 592 Yamato No Aya No Atahe No Koma, wire of Yamato No Aya No Atahe No Ihawi

Reign

It succeeds his half-brother the emperor Yōmei in 587, with the support of the clan Soga and of its half-sister the empress Suiko, the widow of the emperor Bidatsu. The clan Mononobe is combined with prince Anahobe, another son of Kimmei, and tries to install this one on the throne, but fails. The chief of the Soga clan, Soga No Umako, keep silent Mononobe No Moriya, chief of the Mononobe clan, which leads this one to the decline.

In 592, Sushun loses the support of the Soga clan, and is assassinated by Umako which puts on the Suiko throne, which becomes thus the first reigning empress of Japan.
