Supercargo

The supercargo is in the maritime field, a person who represents on board a ship the owner of the Cargaison (the charger) or the Armateur or the Affréteur in time. It has authority on all that touches the cargo: its loading, its saisissage, its follow-up during the voyage. The captain of the ship, preserving him, supplements it authority on the nautical management of the ship.

The term comes from Spanish sobrecargo : that which is occupied or been in load of the cargo. The station of supercargo disappears more and more, the satellite communications allowing the shipper and/or the ship-owner to be permanently indicated on the state of its cargo, and the shipping agents representatives its interests at the time of the stopover.

On a fishing vessel, the supercargo is the captain of fishing , when there exists also a captain of road. The captain of fishing is in load only operations of fishing, it is not obligatorily patentee of officer, it does not deal with nautical management but fishing which is the cargo here.
