Super Lioran

Super Lioran is a Ski station of Auvergne. Its skiable field is largest of all the Massif Central.

Geography

The winter sports resort is established in the middle of the regional Parc of the volcanos of Auvergne in the Département of the Cantal, on the slopes of the Plomb of the Cantal close to the Tunnel of Lioran.

The tracks extend on the communes from Laveissière, Saint-Jacques-of-Blats the, Albepierre-Bredons.

1 Téléphérique connects the station of Lioran to the Lead of the Cantal (1856m). It can contain to 80 people and assembles you at the speed of 10 m/s on highest Sommet of the Cantal.

History

The ski starts at the station of Super Lioran in 1906. Thus, Lioran celebrated its 100 years of ski in Lioran at the winter 2006.

This activity developed thanks to the railway station of Lioran: it is by these means of transport that the very first skiers reached the sites. They brought with them large planks of wood which intrigued the inhabitants. They were of course their skis, and these first skiers went up the slopes of the mountains of Lioran to foot. After these beginnings in Super Lioran, a military contest of ski was organized.

Later, in 1947, the first ski-lift of Lioran was created on Puy de Massebœuf: the ski-lift of Massebœuf , which went up the current track of the parallel. This ski-lift, which was a double ski-lift, attracted the inhabitants of the area. It was replaced by the chair-lift of Massebœuf in 1984.

Actually, the true launching of the station was the creation of the cable car of the Lead of the Cantal in 1967.
