Super Bowl XXVII
The Movement of the companies of France , in summary MEDEF , is a employers' association representing the leader French companies. It is thus acted in fact of a movement of the contractors of France .
History
It was created the October 27th 1998, date on which it replaced the National council of French employers (CNPF). Its goal is to represent the French contractors near the State and other managements and labor. It is about the organization of contractors of the most important France and most influential.
This organization is expressed in the name of 750.000 companies (smaller with largest) and in sectors as varied as the Industrie, the Commerce, the service S and on the whole of the French territory.
The current president of MEDEF is Laurence Parisot, first woman at this post, elected the July 5th 2005. She succeeds Ernest-Antoine Seilliere. Laurence Parisot greeted the election of Nicolas Sarkozy with the presidency of the French Republic in May 2007. “We commit ourselves contributing with responsibility and enthusiasm to the writing of the new page which opens for France.” she wrote in a telegram of congratulations to the new elected official. She continues a tradition of engagement thus on the right employers. In 1981, François Ceyrac, president of CNPF, had carried out battles against François Mitterrand, shown to want “to set up a company which can only be the girl of the “common program”, thus involving our country in the way of collectivism”.
In 1988, more careful, CNPF of François Perigot had refused “to take party for such or such candidate”, but, after having greeted the action of the government of Jacques Chirac, it had asked that found freedoms of management be able “as well as the public freedoms being now guaranteed by the Constitution”.
In 1995, Jean Gandois had proposed the “requirement of total competitiveness which forces all the wheels of a country to be powerful”. In 2002, the Medef of Ernest-Antoine Seilliere had refused “labéliser a candidate” but had taken the opposite course to the proposals of Lionel Jospin. At the European level, MEDEF is member of BUSINESSEUROPE (in the past Union of industries of the European Community (UNICE)). On the international plan he is member of the board of directors of the International organization of work (ILO).

MEDEF has an organization on several levels:

Presidents
Currently, according to the statutes of the Trade union, the president is elected for five years; its mandate will be renewable once, for three years.
- Georges Villiers: chair 1946 1966
- Paul Huvelin: chair CNPF of 1966 1972
- François Ceyrac: chair CNPF of 1972 1981
- Yvon Gattaz: chair CNPF of 1981 1986
- François Perigot: chair CNPF of 1986 1994
- Jean Gandois: chair CNPF of 1994 1997. He resigns after the left government of Lionel Jospin adopted the law on the 35 hours.
- Ernest-Antoine Seilliere: chair CNPF of the December 16th 1997 the June 5th 2005. He was elected with the head of the CNPF with 82% of the voices. Under its presidency, the CNPF becomes MEDEF.
- Laurence Parisot: elected on July 5th, 2005 in the majority relating to the first turn with 271 votes of the 550 delegated of Medef (absolute majority being located at 276 votes), against 150 with Yvon Jacob, 85 with Hugues-Arnaud Mayer and 2 abstentions.
