Supachai Panitchpakdi

Supachai Panitchpakdi , born in 1946 with Bangkok, in Thailand, was the managing director of OMC between on September 1st 2002 and the August 31st 2005. It is the Assistant general secretary the United Nations with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Developme.

Graduate of St Gabriel' S College and Triam Udom School. From 1963-1973, it carries out off studies in Netherlands School Economics (Erasmus University) in Rotterdam, in particular Master in econometrics and Development Planning and Doctorat (Ph.D. in Economic Planning and Development). He works then at the Bank of Thailand. In 1995, the National institute for the administration of the development decreed to him the title of honorary doctor under economic development.

Mr. Supachai occupied various stations in the preceding governments of his country, in particular that of Vice-Minister of finances (1986-1988) and of Deputy Prime Minister (1992-1995). For this reason, it was directly responsible for the participation of Thailand in the trade negociations multilateral of the Cycle of Uruguay, including with regard to their later ratification and implementation.

In 1997 until…., Mr. Supachai is Deputy Prime Minister commercial and Minister of Thailand and took an active part in linked activities with the international business, playing a crucial role in the development of the principal economic policies of Thailand, in particular the national plans of economic development and social. Mr. Supachai also acquired track records in the private sector, having been President of the “Thai Military Bank” (1988-1992) and President of “Nava Finance and Securities”.
