Suomenselkä

The term Suomenselkä indicates a not very definite whole of Moraine S parallels of the west of the Finland.

Suomenselkä is much less clearly visible than the Salpausselkä. Rather than speaking about only one moraine (there is several, and their height exceeds only seldom the 20 meters), Finnish indicates Suomenselkä like a true area, a band from 30 to 50 km broad on 500 km length.

The ground is marked by an alternation of moraines and Esker S, intersected by dense forests and Marais. Historically, Suomenselkä, area very little populated (still today) mark the border between the Ostrobotnie and the provinces located at the south and the east. The center of Suomenselkä also marks the Watershed between on the one hand the coastal rivers of Ostrobotnie and on the other hand the area of the lakes and the basins of the large rivers Kokemäenjoki, Kymijoki and Vuoksi.

Suomenselkä starts in Sideby, small village coastal of the city of Kristinestad. It follows then an axis east-north-east, separating in north the Ostrobotnie and the Ostrobotnie from the South from the Satakunta and the Pirkanmaa in the south. It follows then a north-north-east axis, separating with the Obtrobotnie west from the South and Ostrobotnie-Power station and in the east the Finland-Power station. It is the most spectacular part and also most wild, with in particular sanctuary of Renne S savages around the National park of Salamajärvi.

Suomenselkä finishes in Ostrobotnie of North, not far from the lake Oulujärvi, being prolonged in particular by the wrinkle of Maanselkä to the Russian border .
