Suntory

Suntory Limited (サントリー株式会社, Santorī Kabushiki) is a Japanese company. Founded in 1899, it is the oldest company of manufacture and distribution of alcoholic drinks with the Japan. From now on Suntory knew to diversify with varied offers (of non-alcoholic with the best wines…). Suntory is based close to Osaka.

History

At the origin of Suntory, Torii Shinjiro, which was the first to open a graver in Osaka in February 1899 where it sold primarily wine of importation. In 1907, the store started to sell a red wine of taste called Vin of the Port of Akadama . In 1921, their business widened and became the Kotobukiya company. In December 1924, Yamazaki Distillery, the first distilling of the country began its production of Malt whiskey. First individual whiskey malt " Made In Japan" was put on the market five years later.

Kotobukiya was obliged to stop its production during the Second world war. In 1961, Kotobukiya launched a large pub campaign associating its drink with the voyages. In 1963, Kotobukiya changes name and becomes " Suntory" , of the name of famous produces that they manufacture. The same year, the beer factory Musashino began the production of the Suntory Beer.

  • In the years 1970, the American rock group The Carpenters composed a jingle for the radio countryside.

  • Suntory used much Western actors for its publicity campaigns.
  • Suntory Whiskey has a gigantic luminous insert on Times Square in New York.
