Sunnyland Slim

Albert Luandrew , known as Sunnyland Slim , was a Chanteur - Pianiste of Blues American, born with Vance, the Mississippi, on September 5th 1907, deceased with Chicago, Illinois, on March 17th 1997.

Biography

At the end of the years 1920, it went to settle with Memphis to earn its living as pianist. Beale Street, he played inter alia with Little Brother Montgomery and My Rainey.

In 1939 it went to Chicago where it played with Sony Boy Williamson. In 1947 it made recordings under the name of “Doctor Clayton' S Buddy”. One also finds it on discs of Muddy Waters of the end of the year forty as musician of accompaniment. Sunnyland Slim was wounded with the hand by a stab, so that certain fingers lost a little their former capacity, it did not remain about it less one pianist of appreciated accompaniment. In 1962, it published at Prestige Records of the discs long life. It followed of many recordings for various marks of discs.

In the Sixties, he played with King Curtis, left in rounds with Otis Rush and travelled through Europe with the American Folk Blues Festival in 1964 and Chicago All Stars in 1968. Allstars were composed of Willie Dixon with low, Clifton James with the battery, Walter Horton with the harmonica and Johnny Shines with the guitar. This group made into 1968 recordings for BASF which were published the same year in the form of discs long life. Unfortunately Allstars had by far less success in the USA than in Europe, which, little time afterwards; leads to the dissolution of the group. In 1970 it took part in the festival Ann Arbor Blues. At the same time, it recorded some individual for BEE & Baby Records in Chicago: either under its name or under that of Homesick James (voc and Slide-Gitarre) or of Andrew McMahon (Voc and low). In 1972 one can hear it as musician of accompaniment on a disc long life Live-Howling Wolf of Chess. In 1980/81 Sunnyland made a round with AFBF. Even old, Sunnyland Slim played of the spectacles in Chicago and allowed the old ones and new talents to appear in scene.

Sunnyland Slim died into 1995 of a severe impaired renal function. In 1991 it had entered the Hall off Famed of the Blues.
