Sun 21

Sun21 is a Catamaran whose roof is covered with photovoltaic solar panels. It was built by the shipyard MW-Line with Yvonand, specialized in the construction of solar boats. The basic concept is an evolution of that of the four solar boats of the Expo.02.

Objectives

The boat was built within the framework of the project transatlantic21 , whose promoter is Martin Vosseler. The objective was to carry out the first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in solar boat. Party on December 3rd, 2006 of Seville in Spain, it arrived at the Sailor in Martinique on February 3rd, 2007, while having sailed at a mean velocity of 4 nodes, thus proving the potential of its technology. The average power used was of 2 kw. One of the records of SUN21 is there: speed 4 nodes, power 2,7 CH with 5 people on board living comfortably, for a mass of approximately 12 tons.
