Sump

A sump is a system of drainage.

Sump of fixes

In sea transport, a sump is the part of the bottom of a Bateau being used to collect water in order to pump it and to avoid the formation of a Carène liquidates. Water arrives there by the means of Anguiller S. The cargo compartments must be able to be washed. The sumps recover the flows of water. They are generally on the back because the plate of the ship is usually positive, but one also finds some on the front one. They are small capacities covered with a grid acting as filter, and located at the lower part of the floor of hold, in the double funds. A pipe of the fixed circuit of draining makes it possible to pump there starting from the Engine room. They are provided with warning system of high level (a float acting on an electric contactor). One frequently finds sacrificial anodes there.

Agriculture

A sump for the agricultural drainage consists of a mechanical system aiming lowering the water level by means of pipes and at mainly dissipating the energy produced by water. The basins of Sedimentation in Concrete, the vertical plastic pipes and the tilted steel culverts are all of the examples of sumps.
