Summer off Sam

Summer off Sam is an American film carried out by Spike Lee, left in 1999. He reports the psychosis with New York around the meutres in series of David Berkowitz, known as “the son of Sam” ( his off Sam ), during the canicular summer of 1977.

Synopsis

New York, be 1977. Whereas the city knows a historical heat wave, a serial killer, His off Sam , striking in the Italian-American district of South Bronx. The rumors and suspicions swell, the press maintains ambient paranoia: New York suffocates.

Comment

In Summer off Sam , Spike Lee who moves away for the first time from the community Afro-américain E to plunge in the Bronx Italo-américain. It does not give up therefore its topics of predilections, the friendship and the social strain between communities, which here entrechoquent themselves in a suffocating atmosphere. Effective film of manners, Summer off Sam is also a film with message, which, of a glance ironic and nostalgic (the music, omnipresent, is a character of film) on mislayings of the past, invites the spectator with a reflection on the tolerance.
