Summer

The be is one of the four Saison S of the moderate zones, traditionally perceived like hottest.

Date

The exact date of the beginning of the summer is a business of convention and there does not exist absolute sight on the question on the scale of planet, more especially as the dates are opposite between the northern Hemisphere and the Southern hemisphere. Astronomically, the summer is defined like beginner with the Summer solstice (towards the end June in the northern hemisphere and the end December in the southern hemisphere) and finishes with the autumnal equinox ( September in north, March in the south). In Meteorology, the summer includes/understands by convention the complete months of June, July and August in the northern hemisphere and of December, January and February in the southern hemisphere. The weather definition centers thus best the summer over one year the hottest periods that the astronomical definition.

Various countries are appropriate of different start dates of the summer: in Ireland, the summer begins as of on May 1st; other countries place this beginning at June 1st, others with the June 21st. It also happens that the days at equal distance of the solstices and the equinoxes are used to define the seasons, thus making it possible to center them on these astronomical events; it is the case for example of Chinese astronomy where the summer begins towards the May 6th.

In the south and the south-east of the Asia, the summer is more generally defined like the period active from March to May or at the beginning of June, the hottest period of the year which finishes with the arrival of the Mousson.

Effects

The summer is generally perceived as the season when the temperatures are raised, as well as the period of the year when the Sun remains longest in the sky between its rising and its to sleep (this point depends of course on the conventions adopted on the beginning of the summer). Because of Slope of the Ground in the field of the ecliptic , the hemisphere plunged in the season of summer is tilted in direction of the Sun, thus causing the lengthening of the duration of the days and the increase in the temperature.

In the Northern hemisphere, the Earth is with the Aphélie of its orbit in summer (this phenomenon occurred for example in 2006 the July 3rd). The Earth is thus at this time there with more far from the Sun, which has as a consequence an orbital velocity lower than at the time of the other seasons; the summer is thus the longest season in the northern hemisphere. A symmetrical phenomenon occurs in the southern hemisphere, the Ground being then with the Périhélie and the summer is the shortest season there.

With the Latitude S higher than the polar circles, the phenomenon of Midnight sun occurs during the summer and the Sun does not lie down at all during several days. Sometimes on lower latitudes, the Crépuscule lasts at least an hour and leads to the phenomenon of sleepless nights, met with Saint Petersbourg and in Scandinavia.

The summer is the period of fructification for the majority of the Plante S, it precedes the autumn during which nature enters a phase of decline. The summer is thus frequently used like a Métaphore one period ostentation, of an apogee.
