The sumi-e (墨絵, meaning “ drawing with the Indian ink ”) is the Japanese name of the Lavis. It is the adaptation to the Japanese culture of the Chinese technique of painting to black ink and water.
It is practiced on paper or fabric, by using a Bâton of ink, water, a Pierre with ink and a Pinceau with washing.
