Sultanate of Roum

The sultanate of Roum (i.e. “country of the Romans”) or sultanate of Iconium is a Sultanat seldjoukide established in Anatolia of 1077 with 1307.

History

It had as a capital Nicée (İznik, 1081-1097) then Iconium (Konya, 1097-1302). It was established following an agreement between the Byzantine Empire and the chief seldjoukide Süleyman I {{er}} Shah. In 1176, the sultanate demolishes the Byzantine Empire, which still yields ground to him. In 1243, it falls to the hands from the Mongolian .
