Sultan (male name, drifting of Arabic soultane سلطان) is the title given to the sovereign of old the empires Turkish (in particular of the Ottoman Empire) and to certain sovereigns Musulman S.

The first sovereign to have carried the title of sultan is the chief turkmene Mahmûd de Ghaznî who controlled 998 with 1030. Nowadays, they are the sovereigns of Oman and Borneo which carry the title of Sultan.
