Sulfate

The sulfate is the salt of the sulphuric acid H 2 S O 4. The formula of the Ion sulfate is S O 42-.

The sulfates of Potassium, Ammonium and Magnésium are used in the Engrais. Those of Zinc, Manganese, Copper and of Fer are used in microphone-fertilization, to correct the deficiencies in these elements.

The Copper sulfate is also a Fongicide and a powerful Bactéricide used in agriculture. It enters the composition of the Bouillie of Bordeaux.

Ferrous sulfate, or green vitriol, has as a FeSO4.7H2O formula. This compound is appeared as crystals pale green; it is a by-product of the iron of scouring. It is used like corrosive in Teinture, reconstituting in medicine, and for the manufacture of the Encre S and the Pigment S blacks green or purple blue red.

The zinc sulfate is also used against the proliferation of foams and lichens.

The Gypsum, the Ore composing the Plaster, is a sulfate of Calcium.

Not to confuse sulfates and Sulphite S - coming from the Sulfurous acid -, in particular used in enology.

The lead sulfate is not very soluble and is responsible for the reduction in the capacity of a Lead-acid battery.
