Sukagawa

Sukagawa (須賀川市 - shi) is a city of the Japan located in the heart of the Préfecture of Fukushima. It is popular for its garden of the peony (Botan In), one of the main roads beautiful scenes, and its festival of the large key, which is hereditary during 400 years.

January 1st 2006, the city had a population of 80.757 inhabitants, one population density of 288,88 hab/km ² and a surface of 279,55 km ².

Sukagawa was originally founded the March 31st 1954, by amalgamation of Sukagawa city with Hamada city, Nishibukuro village and Inada village in Iwase district and Oshioe village in Ishikawa district. Then, the city amalgamated with Niida village in Iwase district the March 10th 1955, with Ohigashi village in Ishikawa district the 1967, and finally with Naganuma city and Iwase village in Iwase district on April 1st 2005 The municipal symbols are the Martin-pêcheur of Europe, the pine and the Pivoine.

Sukagawa is twinned with Luoyang in China.
