Suicidal Tendencies
Suicidal Tendencies is a group of Punk hardcore/heavy metal formed in 1982 with Venice, California. They are regarded as the precursors of the punk Skate; their music includes/understands also elements heavy metal and Thrash metal.
The group, carried out by Mike Muir, knows difficult beginnings, in particular while being elected “Worst Band/Biggest Assholes” ( worse group/larger assholes ) by the Flipside magazine. Nevertheless the number of fans of the group increases quickly, just as the rumors on the possible connections with gangs (what led to a prohibition to occur in concert with Los Angeles). The group signs with the independent label Frontier Records and leaves its first album Suicidal Tendencies in 1983. This album at the time carries out the best sale for an album of Rock hardcore. The video of Institutionalized is one of the first songs of hardcore to being diffused widely by MTV. The title is also used in the film Repo Man of Emilio Estevez and in an episode of the series Two cops in Miami .
The group knows its first station-wagon then. 1987 does the return of Suicidal Tendencies with Join The Army mark, but the group really explodes with the following album, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can' T Even Smile Today? . The two following albums confirm this success and fall under the traditional style of Suicidal Tendencies, rapid, sometimes melody, with very committed texts always. The changes of line-up are a constant of the group, even if starting from Lights… Camera… Revolution! a certain stability starts with four musicians who will remain many years: Mike Muir with the microphone, Mike Clark and Rocky George with the guitars and Robert Trujillo with low.
1992 and The Art off Rebellion mark a rupture in the style of the group which leans from now on more towards the heavy metal. Re-recording Suicidal Tendencies (for the history, Mike Muir supported any more that its fans cannot find the first album of Suicidal Tendencies), famous Still Cyco After All These Years , does not change nothing with the musical evolution group. In spite of that, Suicidal For Life will be a large success - and the last of the group in this formation.
In 1995, clap of thunder for the fans: Mike Muir announces the dissolution of the group, " fêtée" in an ultimate round in particular including Australia and France. Muir at the time explains it by a group decision and to have been impression until the end of the things. Two years later, it will evoke the musical dead end in which was the group (from its point of view) and the need for changing. Its implication in the side-project Infectious Grooves, founded with Robert Trujillo, and of the problems with the Epic head office seem to have also conduit has this exit.
Suicidal Tendencies returns in 1997 with a new formation: in addition to Mike Muir and Mike Clark, Dean Pleasants d' Infectious Grooves with the guitar, Josh Paul with low and Brooks Wackerman (ex-Bad4Good, Infectious Grooves) with the battery. They leave the EP Six The Hard Way in 1998 then the album Freedumb in 1999; these two discs mark a return to a style close to the punk Skate of the beginnings. Then in 1999 Free Your Soul And Save My Mind leaves, presenting this time a music to the accents trash and Punk.
The group knows then a period without true topicality, which sees the departure of Josh Paul and Brooks Wackerman replaced by Steve Brunner with low and its Ron brother with the battery. Suicidal Tendencies prepares a new album, planned for 2007 and will be in round in France from April 15th to 29th (infos: www.teraterre.com). While waiting for XIII (a) Records/Sony republish on March 12th the albums Freedumb, Free your drunk and save my mind, Infectious Grooves farmhouse borracho and Friends & Family 2.
