Around film
- This film is the first of Spielberg carried out for the cinema (" Duel " being a telefilm). Unfortunately, it did not have a great success near the public (12,8 million dollars of receipts in the world for a budget of 3 million). It should be said that Universal cut several scenes, not wanting to make this first setting in scene an important film, considering the subject too difficult. However, the realizer shows talent in this rythmée work, which is being a strange mixture of moments intimists and animated scenes.
-
the film is founded on a rather similar event, which occurred in 1969 in the area from Sugarland, in Texas. Robert and Ila Fae Dent kidnapped a police officer and stole his car. They went then to Port Arthur, where the mother of Ila Fae lived. But very quickly, 150 police cars went immediately on the spot, while the media seized the business. The agent of the FBI Bob Wiatt, confronted with the couple, was forced to kill Robert of a ball in full nape of the neck (this one directed a weapon on the agent) and to stop Ila Fae, not without using of violence.
-
Projected in competition with the Cannes festival, the film gained the Price of the Scenario, and profited from one nomination to the Gold Palm. No other film of Steven Spielberg was presented to Cannes.
